Apple has released critical software updates across its product ecosystem this week, addressing a web-based exploit that could grant remote attackers access through a browser-based flaw. The patches—rolled out for iOS 18.6, iPadOS 18.6, macOS Sequoia 15.6, tvOS 18.6, watchOS 11.6, and visionOS 2.6—close a vulnerability that had exposed users to targeted attacks.

The flaw, tracked as CVE-2025-6558, allowed malicious actors to run unauthorized code by tricking users into loading compromised HTML content. It targeted browser engines and affected browsers like Google Chrome. The security issue was first identified by Google’s Threat Analysis Group in June and has since been mitigated in Chrome through an emergency patch issued in July.

The vulnerability was labeled as a zero-day exploit, meaning it was being actively abused before a fix was available. Apple’s latest updates effectively neutralize the threat by integrating the required protections into all supported devices.

The iOS 18.6 update is available for all Apple smartphones starting from iPhone XS through the newest iPhone 16 series. iPads already operating on iPadOS 18 can install the 18.6 version. Users on older hardware that do not support iOS 18 or related versions are advised to consider transitioning to supported models to ensure continued protection from evolving digital threats.

In keeping with its longstanding policy, Apple withheld public disclosure of the vulnerability details until patches were officially distributed. The company typically avoids discussing active security concerns until updates are widely available to limit exposure.

Users are encouraged to install the latest software on all Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, Apple TVs, and Vision Pro headsets. These updates are essential in preventing exploitation of the recently discovered flaw and preserving device integrity.

Patch Summary:

* iPhone: Update to iOS 18.6

* iPad: Update to iPadOS 18.6

* Mac: Update to macOS Sequoia 15.6

* Apple Watch: Update to watchOS 11.6

* Apple TV: Update to tvOS 18.6

* Vision Pro: Update to visionOS 2.6

Security experts strongly advise against postponing these updates, as unpatched devices may remain vulnerable to remote attacks via the web.
